Find a magazine article and read it!
Here are some interesting articles I have found which can help to give us a feel for space. If you know of others for me to include, please email me.
- “NASA’s Roller Coaster into Space,” Marianne J. Dyson: Ad Astra, September/October 1999, Volume 11/Number 5, pages 26-30. A first hand description of Univerity of Illinois student experiment project flown aboard NASA’s KC-135 “Vomit Comet.” Nice report on the experiment, the prep for the flight. Also a candid description of what the flight really feels like.
- “My Life as a Cosmonaut,” Peter Jon Lindberg: Travel & Leisure, January 2000, Volume 30, Number 1, pages 108-118. The end of the Soviet Union brings us a cash poor Russian Space program. This brings an opportunity for tourists who can affoard it: experience real cosmonaut training from the facilities of the former Soviet Union. The author takes us with him in all types of training. Good pictures, very interesting reading. Sad, in the sense that facilities there have clearly become run-down with little funds. Perhaps the western visitors can help this?
